Swiss Embassy | Yaounde Cameroon
The Swiss Embassy designed for Yaoundé, Cameroun is a unique dialectic pairing of a highly public and representational building with extraordinarily sensitive requirements concerning privacy and security. The design of the compound uses the courtyard building type to address the need for privacy and security while also expressing the vernacular thoughts towards space, light and air that is typical in this region.
The design of the building is based on two opposing L-shaped structures, which are linked by a third element. This layout provides two courtyard spaces to serve the main program elements of the Chancellery, Ambassador Residence and the Staff Quarters.

ACLA Community Center Los Angeles | California
ACLA believes that every child is a freely creative individual deserving safe, healthy communities in which to express themselves on their own terms and with a supportive network of peers and mentors. ACLA is committed to working with youth in underserved Los Angeles neighborhoods to transform unused urban land into dynamic neighborhood ArtParks. As a daily presence in youth's lives, ArtParks can implement programming that are both responsive to the immediate and specific challenges of a community while at the same time addressing itself to the holistic needs of individuals.
John Maroney was inspired by “Spiraling Orchard”
a symbol for infinite neighborhood outreach, and
based the design for the pavilion on this concept.
The community center is naturally embedded into the sloping landscape of the park and provides a larger assembly space, supporting kitchen and restrooms for the daily activities of ACLA. The building will be a state of the art environmentally responsible structure with the aim of reaching Passive Building Certification and becoming a Zero Energy facility.
This pavilion project had been permitted with the Los Angeles Building Department but unfortunately has not been built.
